Clinical Iridology Iridology is based on one of the most remarkable and intricate structures in the human body, the iris, the colored portion of the eye. A trained health practitioner uses iridology to view the markings of the iris to determine the condition of the body’s tissues and organs. These markings help the practitioner to understand the body’s integrity: the general constitutional strength and weakness, toxicity, genetic heritage, and degeneration or healing. Iridology is a means of understanding the status of a person’s health. Iridology is an excellent method on its own, yet it complements other means of evaluation. Every person is unique, so the solution methodology differs from one individual to another. A trained iridologist applies a solution that is tailored to each unique client. The solution is based on genetic heritage, trauma over the client’s lifetime and current health conditions. The benefit of iridology is that it allows the practitioner to discover emerging conditions before they become a serious health issue. The practitioner can thereby enable the client to take actions designed to minimize or even eliminate a potential problem. Initially, the iris appears to be similar to a colorfully painted wall, a flat surface. But in fact, the iris is not flat; it is curved in a manner that resembles the top of a cupcake. The iris has a depth of one to two millimeters. Each color variation can represent a distinct challenge to the owner of those eyes. When we look at blue, brown or green eyes, often the beauty of the colors is breathtaking. Yet these colors aid a trained iridologist to understand the health history of an individual. Often people say, “The eyes are the window to the soul.” I find that quotation to be generally accurate. The language of the eyes is worthy of study. Used correctly, iridology gives the individual information he or she cannot obtain any other way. As complex as iridology may appear to the novice, it is relatively simple and straightforward once the basic concepts are understood. Many types of practitioners have researched, published and contributed to the development of iridology as a useful method. Bernard Jensen, D.C., Ph.D. developed the iridology map that is used today by naturopathic doctors and health practitioners. Many have used iridology in conjunction with an herbal approach to restore health to people who have suffered illness. The key to understanding disease is that it begins with inflammation. When inflammation is chronic, it often can be diagnosed. The markings in the iris indicate four stages of inflammation: acute, subacute, chronic, and degenerative. These four stages reveal the presence of abnormal tissue activity. Inflammation causes numerous symptoms. Studying symptoms seldom reveals the source of the problem or the way to resolve the underlying cause of the symptoms. But iridology provides a tool to help guide us to the cause of a problem. Symptoms may disappear or recur, but the root cause of a problem will persist until it has been appropriately addressed. Iridology exposes that root cause; then it is often simple to heal it with herbs and supplements. In my practice I like to show clients what I observe in their eyes so they can understand more fully the process I am using and they can see the importance or the depth of the underlying problem, and take actions designed to correct the problem. Each iris sign is considered and recorded. In this way we can read the story in its totality. All markings appear via of the nervous system. Iridology is effective because of the interconnections among nerves in the body. The nerves on the right side of the body are connected to the spinal column, which goes up into the brain and has a double crossover in the brain and shows up in the right iris. The nerves on the left side of the body are connected to the spinal column, which goes up into the brain and has a double cross over in the brain and shows up in the left iris. Activity in the midline of the body shows up in both irises. The iridology assessment informs the herb and supplement choices for the client. A plan of action is developed based on the most urgent or prominent features that appear in the iris in relationship to the client’s priorities, needs and desires. Clients tend to know when something does not feel right in their bodies. Iridology can be used as a preventative measure. An individual does not have to wait until he feels sick before having an iridology consultation to learn about the weakest link in his body, thereby avoiding possible degenerative diseases. In addition to observing symptoms, such as pain, discomfort, skin eruptions, indicators of imbalance physically, emotionally, and mentally, healing one’s body is a matter of understanding the language of the markings visible in the iris. With these observations and knowledge of the markings, one can give his body what it needs to restore balance; i.e., to bring about an internal equilibrium. The body is able to heal itself naturally when given proper conditions and healing elements. Iridology can provide the information needed to “switch on” the body’s natural healing ability in order to attain a significantly healthy body. |
